Hi,

I started treatment on the NHS in March this year. It only took three weeks from my initial consultation to being all braced up. I mentioned to my regular dentist on a Wednesday that I was thinking about having ortho treatment. He booked my in to see the ortho at the same dental surgery the following Friday. That day impressions were taken and notes were sent off to the NHS for their approval. This came back two weeks later. They pay either 20% or 40% (can't remember exactly) of the total cost of treatment. As I only have a brace on my top teeth (metal) and treatment time is estimated at 8 months maximum the cost to me was £314.90 although this also includes the cost of a permanent retainer.

I know exactly was you mean about bad teeth affecting your self-asteem. For years I barely spoke or smiled, purely to hide my minging teeth! Ever since I started treatment the difference has been amazing. I am much more confident, even though I have metal in my mouth. I like to think people who notice the braces are aware that I am making a positive step to improving my appearance and it's great to see the improvement in my teeth.

Hope this helps, if you've got anymore questions just let me know!
