I just came back from my latest adjustment. I started noticing 2 adjustments ago that there was this brown stain on my upper left lateral tooth. Today, I brought it up again to my orthodontist and he said, it's definitely a cavity after trying to floss it and use a saw-like device. He put a metal coil between the upper left central and upper left lateral tooth to create space so that I could go to the dentist and get it fixed.
What exactly is the dentist going to do? The cavity is along the edge closes to the upper left central tooth, but it appears that there is crack or indentation where the cavity is nestled in. My ortho talked about shaping the tooth to get rid of the cavity. I'm lucky that my ortho and dentist have adjoining office space so my ortho said he would remove my archwire prior to my dental appointment and replace my archwire after I'm done.
Have you ever had a similar experience with a patient, what did you do? Should I worry? I wasn't a habitual flosser prior to getting braces and now it's biting me in the a$$:(
