I wear ceramic porcelain on top and metal on bottom. They recommend getting metal on bottom because if your top teeth hit the bottom brackets, it might damage/chip away at your teeth (ceramic is harder material than metal). The chances of your bottom teeth hitting top is obviously minimal (unless you have an underbite).

Pros for ceramic:
1) Aesthetic value. This is the main reason. From afar, it is difficult to tell you're wearing braces. Even from close up, they are not as obvious as metal braces (sometimes they just look like retainers). If you're self conscious or you don't want to stand out as much, you might want to look into these.
2) Smoother. Ceramic is smoother than metal brackets and may be more comfortable for your mouth.

Cons for ceramic:
1) They can stain. If you eat a lot of curry, drink coffee, or smoke a lot, they can stain. Also, if your teeth are naturally discolored, they don't look as good.
2) Can increase treatment time. You have to talk to your ortho. But they can increase your treatment time.
3) Bigger than metal. They are slightly larger than metal brackets, but again, they are also smoother.
4) Pricier. They are about 500 dollars more than metal braces. This may be the worst part about ceramic braces.
