The point you raised with the new forum having to be regulated is a good one, I think Lynn as owner of the site will need to delegate a group of people who she can trust to be worthy moderators and administrators, to help the forum run smoothly. I would volunteer my services if needed ;o) The ability to register your own unique username is a big plus, it would give you individuality and make you feel you belonged to the board more. On this current set-up someone could steal your identity.
