I have a forward head posture as well. Mine is mostly do to having a whiplash which caused TMJ problems. If I understand correctly, the muscles in your neck try to compensate for the muscles in your jaw contracting. If your jaw is too small then your jaw muscles are most likely overworked and the anterior neck muscles try to compensate for the jaw muscle overload. Your orthodontist may be correct in saying that braces will correct your neck problem as well. In my case I was told that braces would not help my jaw. I would go and get a second opinion from a different ortho especially if this is your main concern when considering getting orthodontic work done. Best of luck!
