Subject: Odd number tooth extraction

I went for orthodontic treatment n the doctor removed 2 upper pre-molars (left n right) and a low pre-molar (left). He said if he were to remove two lower pre-molars would cause a gap that would be too large to fill. However all the stories I've read so far involve even no tooth extractions, and some even advised against odd no tooth extractions. Should I be worried? Would my lower teeth be skewed to one side?
