I have traced my husband's family tree back to him, and can find nothing else. His mother may be Choctaw, as there is Choctaw in the line somewhere around this time. I hope you can help.

Carroll and LeFlore counties had Choctaw reservations. Walker is not an uncommon surname for those residents. Some Choctaws were sold into slavery either before or after the Trail of Tears. I have Walkers as well. Who clearly without doubt do not look African or European. Check the Dawse Roll and the Choctaw Nation Oklahoma site to see if your families names are referenced. There is also a Missippi Choctaw site as well. My Walkers (late 1800s) are Jordan, Columbus, and Florence. Florence Walker and Andrew Jackson (suspect no kin to the president) had children Ora, and Jordan (Jack). Hope this helps.

We have since learned quite a lot concerning James Matthew Walker. Still there are more questions than answers or almost as many. He was raised by Lawrence William Walker of Noxubee County MS, although Lawrence was probably not the biological father. DNA tests have proven my husband's family is genetically rekated to the Farrars, not Walkers. Since there was so many questions about James Matthew Walker, we are pretty positive that his father was a Farrar. Lawrence Walker's sister married Landon C Farrar and they had a son named Robert Shelton Farrar. Pretty sure that Robert Shelton Farrar was the father of James Matthew Walker.
