Yes, but cause of Iron curtain western ppl did not know much about the USSR too. And western journaslists, living in the USSR often got wrong interpretation of the country.

But ppl still watch those movies and like them despite of inaccuracies. One thing is the quality of the scenario, playing of actors and another - historical accuracy

It is a bit paranoid I think.

I think Melik-Karamov read more Soviet papers and books than the authors and must know the subject better.

I did not read it. I only remember the reporting about Karpov-Korchnoj matches in 1978 and 1981, and they were very ideologized.

I dunno how is it in the West, but it Russia we have several journalists and papers who are specialized in dirty articles. It is generally known. When somebody needs to write a dirty article about his concurent(mainly politicians) he uses those journalists.
