It seems to me that to speculate which of parents is more important is like to discus what is more important, sleep or food. Your arguments must be true, but the role of mother is very important. Perhaps you ever heard about the experiment with apes. The baby apes were taken away from their mothers soon after their birth. They vere given 'an artificial mom': something like heating toy apes. A young ape could play with 'a mom', cuddle up to it, heat from it. When such apes grew up it turned out that the females either refused from their children or treated them very bad and even killed. They had no maternal instinct at all.
