I'm only 17 so i dont know if my input matters but i figure it would be cool to tell everyone how I'm comming, and if anyone ever has anythign to tell me not in to answer my questions but about me then e'mail me at arfland@sbcglobal.net..........anyway, Maysha is doing what i think would be average/pretty good i think the fact that im training on dirt/grass may have some effect on her..... she freeks when i have her tied out, then when i go get her she is pulling me to the end of the track so i have to drage her to the scent pad......she tracks faster than all get out, not fast i hold her back but she freaks out, she would definately overshoot the treats if i didnt hold her back, this is something im worried about, i have no idea how i am going to slow her down, but whne i hold her back it seems like she is really using my scent on the ground to find the food.......i think we'll do well in schutzhund, but i just dont know, its unbelievably hard for me to tell if she's actually tracking or looking for the food until i let her progress to the next step if anyone can tell me how to slow her down later on i would appreciate an e'mail on that..........anyway heres how i am training,,,,,, i have just started tracking, was going to wait until she was much older and use something of the Khoeler method (teach to retrieve then teach to follow scent pad scent to retrieve unseen article, the article cant be seen so they develop a deep nose) however this is my first dog and thought it would be better to go with a totally positive motivational type of tracking.........i kick out the scent pad then post the flag then kick scuff like you do for the scent pad except in a strait line for each foot, i make the track about 10 feet long rite now am lengthening it daily, then i walk off an around and retrack it 2 more times then the third time i place hotdog bits diaganal from each other so it makes a /'\./'\./'\./'\./]] and at the end i make somthing of another scent pad where i place the jackpot, about 10 pieces.........then i tie her up and doing it one more time, then after that i hook the lead to her collar and do obedience
