Well I was told by verious compeditors that running a rod from front to back changes the peek frequency of the enclosure thus rediceing SPL if you do not account for the changed peek frequecy. But I have not experienced that personaly. When I brace front to back gain SPL. But that is just what I have heard so I though I would mention it.

The guy that gained 1 dB. by rounding his port edges is Christopher Hagstod (no idea how to spell his name). He has 2 18’s and he does 163 dB. on the Term-Lab. But he did not just round his port edges. He took PVC pipe and used that to curve the edges. Apparently that works better then just using a router to router the port. However I do believe him that he gained that much. I have heard others say they have gained massive amounts of SPL by putting PVC pipe on the edges to make it round.

When I talk about the door pins I am referring to the brackets that hold the door on. They are adjustable on many vehicles including mine. If you adjust them to move the door in more you will stiffen the door up witch can increase SPL. I gained about .4 dB. by playing with my door pins. Unfortunately I had to loosen the door up to gain SPL. Usually it’s the other way around though.

As far as the amplifier modifications go… Amplifier modifications are legal in dB. Drag. I also am fairly sure they are in MECA too. I can not speak for the other organizations because I do not run in them much, but honestly I do not know any organization that does not allow you to modify amplifiers. Many people disable the protection circuit so they can run their amplifiers below stable impedance’s. I have not heard of any organization that does not allow that in some class. By the way the guy that I got the information on wiring the cap to the voltage rails is a big dB. Drag competitor. And in fact the Rockford Fosgate 15kW amplifier basically does what I was trying to explain about wiring the cap to the rails. Wiring a cap before the power supply (outside the amp) is not the same as wiring it to the voltage rails. In fact it is usually not a good idea to wire caps to amplifiers like you would do with a daily driver. Wiring a cap before the power supply keeps voltage constant before the power supply but not as much after the supply. Wiring one at the rails keeps voltage stable to the MOSFET’s witch in turn will result in much more output then if you wire one up before the power supply.

Do you know Mark Barfield? Because I never said he does not belong to any scantioning body. But I suppose I should tell the whole story about him because I think you are getting confused with what I meant. Mark never said that he had the 3rd loudest vehicle in the world to me personally. His friend told me. I originally got a hold of him through one of his friends that attended Installer’s Institute with me. One of my class mates was good friends with him. He knew his number and gave it to me so I could call him and ask him SPL questions. Mark’s friend (my classmate) told me that Mark helped build the Memphis vehicle witch is the third loudest vehicle in the world. That’s where that came from. But I can tell he is extremely smart in SPL. I learned a lot from him.

Well I disagree with you about fiberglassing the floor. I think it is possible to gain 2 dB. But it also depends. Are we talking 2 dB. @ 170 dB. or 2 @ 150 dB., because there is a big difference. But at 155 dB. I think you could gain 2 dB. if you did it right. If you lined the undercarriage with enough fiberglass so that the floor is as hard as concrete I think you can gain tremendous amounts of SPL. There are guys out there that have gained 3 + dB. just by changing out to acrylic windshields. Personally I have gained .6 dB. before just by adding a brace in the enclosure! But regardless of how much SPL you will gain it was just a idea you might want to try.

You said that a CD case would not be big enough. Well yes something bigger would be useful. But I was just throwing out ideas of objects. I gained about .3 dB. @ 155 dB. one night at a competition just by having my backpack and CD case and laptop sitting on my passenger’s side seat. That is how I originally found out that placing objects on the seat helped me. But that night was not that long ago and I have not further tested it. I will as soon as I get my new system done.

I understand what you are saying about not relying on things that are not fact. You do not want me to post incorrect information. And I agree with you. But the problem is that in SPL there are extremely few “facts” or certainties. SPL is too much vehicle dependent so very few facts in SPL exist. Everything is trial and error. So if I only suggested what I know is true with all vehicles, there would not be much to read. What I said before was only things I have heard from industry professionals, and what I have found to work on my vehicle and many other installs. If I were to suggest everything I could possibly think of that may increase SPL the page would have been 4x longer. So I tried to weed out things that I though were rumors or things I was not sure of and I only suggested what I have heard from some of the best competitors in the world and what I know works for me and other vehicles I have worked on before.

But I am not saying all of those tips would work on your vehicle. They were just things you may want to try. I know some of them reduced SPL in my vehicle. But different vehicles are different so that is why I suggested that you many want to try and see.

So are you going to tell me what you guys are running yet? Or are you going to make me find out the hard way. :P Is the Escort going to be at the Mandan comp?
