Subject: Re: The Big Mondio Question & More ???...
In reply to: David 's message, "The Big Mondio Question..." on 14:40:39 01/05/03 Sun

The sport suffers in the working dog public's eyes because of no hits only in the eyes of those who have never tried to seriously train Mondioring. Unfortunately, especially in overly pc Northern CA,where I live, I am sure it would suffer BECAUSE of hits.

In addition, on the PC thought, Kathy says she thinks that if there IS war, dogsports will be allowed for awhile, but if not, they will be outlawed in a few years. Any thoughts on this one?

Although myself and many people I know who train Mondio,(especially those whose dogs are police or security dogs) DO make varied contact in training only, adding a hit or two with a bamboo stick during one of the attacks would make it not Mondio. One of the things that I love about Mondioring is knowing that you have a chance to be on a field and represent your country in front of some of the best dogs and handlers I have ever seen. It's cool to see one of the largest representations of different countries at the World Championships, something I doubt you will ever see in FR. Btw, I HAVE indeed seen some strong contact with accessories at the world championships... Ditto to each and every point that Jeff and Max have made.

If my dog didn't bite whether it be from gunshot, or other noise, because of contact with stick, accessory or any body part, I would indeed question the value, because the dog was not doing their job. I would also question my training methods, and if I believed them to be sound, then I would question if the dog might need a career change or if I had chosen the wrong breed or wrong individual dog for me.

Would you question the value of a dog, whether it be sport or police/security that didn't bite if the decoy had on a "hidden" suit? did not move? if the decoy put their arms behind their back? or if the decoy was very good with accessories and the dog did not bite at all? or if the dog even ran back to the handler before biting? Has anyone ever witnessed these things?
