Date Posted: 08:46:29 04/22/04 Thu In reply to: Haggis 's message, "Re: OBSESSION WITH GLOSSOPS GROUND" on 03:16:21 04/22/04 Thu I know that people will be casting a very critical eye on our new surface next term, and they will have every right to do so. My point still remains...following the many issues we've faced this season, ie; Chris Dunn's, (Ramsbottom Utd)Transfer Window & the use of ineligible players and its repercussions, the quality of our pitches must stand head & shoulders above anything else. I would sooner see clubs invest in their pitches than build stands that in effect only house one man & his dog! As for referee's Haggis, the only time they take a look at the pitch is when it's been subject to rain, ice or snow. They wouldn't dare call a game off because the groundsman has failed to mow or roll the pitch, or replace the divots. As for manpower, we all have the same problem. 'Awful' may seem ott to you, but it is as bad as I've seen throughout my travels this season. I've been to over 100 games so far, including some of the minor league's, and a most of them are better than average. Regardless, the use of the word 'awful' in my match report, reflected the fact that for us the pitch wasn't very conducive to our type of play - a fact that was highlighted by our Manager in his post match interview. Once again I reiterate that I've got absolutely no axe to grind with you or your supporters, as they are one of the nicest groups of people in the league. It's a game about opinions, as you well know and indeed highlighted in your superb match report. I don't particularly agree with your stance on Stuart Rudd, but I have to accept that is the way you saw things. I witnessed the little niggling fouls & shirt pulling that went an prior to Stuart's so called 'dive' and wasn't at all suprised by his moaning to the referee. Nevertheless, I won't hold it against you! It's tough enough running a club without the criticism, I know, but still the standard of pitch would be top of my priorities especially when seeking to move up the pyramid system.
