>The Breeze has morphed over the past two to three years into a mix of Soft AC/Smooth Jazz. There is a simple explanation. In most markets where Smooth Jazz is played a majority of the hour, and a few Soft AC/Smooth Vocal songs are thrown in, the stations usually dive in the ratings, i.e. KKJZ in Portland, Oregon. I was able to enjoy this station upon my move to Portland. After six months of being here, they switched to a full AC station, and their ratings doubled in less than a year. It is very hard to run a straight Smooth Jazz station, because of the small niche audience it serves. KBZN does a great job of offering a Smooth blend of music, and though its ratings never fluctuate much, staying in the 2 to 3 share range. They have a loyal audience, and what else could they program that could compete, when every other format is taken, and 2 or 3 or 4 stations are doing the same thing. The consistency of their sound, the knowledgeable and LOCAL DJs clearly make this station #1 in my book. Long live the BREEZE!!
