Transit workers want fair share from MTA

Play the video
(05/29/03) PARKCHESTER - Members of the Transit Workers Union say they have been cheated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and are demanding a new contract.
Members of the Transit Union lobbied outside MTA headquarters in an attempt to get both its own union president and the MTA to agree to go back to the bargaining table. The workers say they renegotiated their contract under false pretenses, since at that time the MTA claimed it was in debt. In light of recent accusations that the MTA cooked its books, workers say they were cheated when they accepted no pay increase and a $1,000 stipend.

The workers are considering a lawsuit against the MTA. Meanwhile, the MTA says it has no plans to return to the bargaining table.
