I am the mother of an 11 year old boy with Autism. I live in NYS. The service delivery system needs an overhaul, and no one with the authority or power to do anything about it cares. We have experienced everything from my son being locked in a closet in school on numerous occasions for hours, which caused him to regress to the point of eating his own feces,to workers assigned to teach him social skills calling Police Officers b**tards in front of him. There are laws to protect us from such atrocities but no one enforces them. I am at my wits end and don't know what to do. Unfortunately I know of many families with similar experiences. It is so hard to have hope for your child's future when the system is more disabled than they are. You are all tax payers, I thought you might like to know about some more government waste! I urge you to learn about the types and quality of services being offered to disabled members of your communities and to get vocal about the way your tax dollars are administered. You are paying for multi-million dollar programs which are only benefitiing their employees. You will continue to pay for them so please get vocal and demand quality assurance. The lives of children and disabled adults depend on us all.
