The following is part of my assignment for the class I am taking now at Fuller:

Eugene Chih-Chiang Huang, 79; An Alleged Libertine who Was Deadly Serious about Christ, Love and Life

After a yearlong battle, Eugene Chih-Chiang Huang and his cancer cells finally reached an amicable settlement over their ¡§life-style choices¡¨ on May 15, 2043. They have decided to move together into a nice grassy corner-view space at the Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier,
California. They are looking forward to long conversations under a nice, shady tree during the long, sunny days and gazing at stars and passing trains during the clear evenings. Now, for those of you who do not feel awkwardly uncomfortable with human mortality, this means that Eugene died of cancer on May 15, 2043.

Eugene was born July 18, 1963, in Taipei, Taiwan, to Stephen and Ling Huang. He moved to California in 1983 and lived in San Francisco, Santa Ana, Oxnard and Alhambra before he somewhat settled down in Thousand Oaks. He had been working as an engineer for the United States Navy after graduation from California Polytechnic State University at Pomona, with the exception of the four years he took off to attend Fuller Theological Seminary at Pasadena, CA. Although Eugene often described his civil service carrier as pencil pushing and paper shuffling, he was somewhat known as the ¡§consigliore¡¨ in his post-seminary years. His team leader once said, ¡§I¡¦m keeping Eugene here to keep us from going crazy. Oh, and he takes care of stuff, too.¡¨

In his retirement, Eugene spent most of his time in the kitchens where he cooked, fed and listened. Although he made many friends around the local churches, he had not held any ¡§official¡¨ religious post. His less than edifying speech, fondness of secular entertainment, occasional consumption of wine and even more occasional tobacco smoking made it hard for the church leaders to invest trust in him. When asked of his Christian standing, however, Eugene always answered, ¡§I am dead serious about living with Christ.¡¨

Eugene¡¦s first wife, Hildegard von Schneider of Aschaffenburg, passed away in 2012. He is survived by his wife, Pom Jaun of Oxnard; daughter Linda Sloan and husband, Michael, and grandsons, Matthew and Zachary of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter Sandra Katz and husband, Neil, and granddaughters, Katherine and Victoria of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter Lisa; son Philip; sister Sally Hsueh, nieces Cindy, Amy and Nephew Joseph of Taipei, Taiwan; sister May Holman and nephews, Stephen and Christopher of San Jose, Ca.

Interment services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Little Chapel on the Prairie, Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3900 Workman Mill Road, Whittier with interment following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mr. Huang's favorite charity, the Ventura County Rescue Mission in Oxnard, where he volunteered his time: Rescue Mission Alliance, P.O. Box 5545, Oxnard, CA 93031.
