yeah...just wanted to share something...I realized...lol I know its late but yeah...just hit me tonight! went to venture...where Dr. Tony Campolo was speaking! you're right eugene...he is really funny and great!
well lately...when i started getting more into small groups, it was conflicting with my workout times...but i had to choose ... and make commitments so I decided to go to the small groups… and also at the retreat…I was confused on who to hang out with? Are we only supposed to hang out with Christian friends in order to grow spiritually?
well I was struggling with the fact of having 2 groups of friends…Christian and everyday friends…well didn’t know what to do…so I guess I prayed everyday…asked a few leaders…. Well the speaker for the conference replied a email…and when I read it I couldn’t accept it, I guess the answer he gave me, wasn’t one I wanted to hear, but then again…I just wasn’t really caring about what he said…
then today happened, I went to venture (it’s a program for mainly non-believers) well I went … enjoyed it very well…and my friend asked me why didn’t my other friends come? That’s when it hit me…I had the opportunity…I guess it’s the way I am…I don’t like to push stuff on others, I don’t like to feel uncomfortable myself, so I don’t do it to others…. I guess I should have invited my friends, well at least tell them about it… I felt bad…
while Dr. Campolo was speaking… he was talking about being believers and disciples…and the difference between the two… I guess I’ve been a believer a long time…it’s about time to start and try to be a disciple… and then it struck to me go back and read the email ….
So this time I read the email more time more thoroughly, I guess I am so happy to be blessed with so many friends, and there is a reason for that… maybe I need to do more evangelizing? I don’t know...I am going to try harder to be more of a disciple and example. well yeah here’s the email:
Notice that this passage says that we are not to try to keep ourselves away
from pre-Christians. In fact, that is the whole reason we are on Earth! When
our Lord Jesus prayed for us in John 17, he said to His Father,
"As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world." (John
17:18)
And in describing the way in which the Father sent Him into the world, the
Lord said,
"I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me
should stay in darkness." (John 12:46)
To summarize all of this, Arnold, the Lord wants you to be friends with
pre-Christians because He wants you to be a light in their lives, to give
them a glimpse of Christ through your words and actions. The problem is that
we believers often turn off the light when we are with out pre-Christian
friends. instead of influencing them for Christ, we give in to negative
influences ourselves. We end up going into places we should not go, saying
things we shouldn't say, and doing things we shouldn't do.
Well good thing there will be another Venture coming up…March 5th, I’m sure I’m going to take this as an opportunity…this time around!
