Subject: The Machinist

Last weekend, my wife and I rented an Indy film I hadn't heard of before. It's called The Machinist, and it stars Chrisitian Bale.

I wasn't all that excited about renting it, but my wife has a thing for Christian Bale, so it was her pick.

About 10 minutes in, she wanted to turn it off, but I was intrigued. It ended up being an absolutely fantastic movie, which reminded me a lot of Memento and Insomnia.

Bale plays a machinist worker who hasn't slept in a year. He lost a ton of weight for the role (I'm talking super sickly skinny; you can't even tell it's him; that's why my wife didn't want to continue watching it). His fatigue (or so he thinks) helps contribute to a co-worker losing his arm in a machine accident. After several strange clues, he begins to think that he was simply a pawn in a higher plan.

This is a MUST see film, which really deserves much more recognition than it received. I'm actually going to buy it.
