I didn't think this was that bad, in fact, I was pleasantly surprised by it. I'm grading on a different scale though, then, let's say Entertainment Weekly (who gave the movie a D+). I'm viewing it as a family movie that is enjoyable for kids as well as adults. The Son of the Mask is junk no matter how you try to spin it. The Pacifier was much better.

I'm not a huge Vin Diesel fan, but, and I'm sure many will disagree with me, he has a nice screen presence. He did a nice job here of using his tough-guy image to poke fun at himself. The plot is pretty much paint-by-numbers and in true Disney fashion, there is a dead parent (actually more than one). The supporting characters are above-average. Faith Ford as the mother doesn't have much to do but looks nice in a pair of slacks. Carol Kane plays a Eastern-European former beauty queen turned nanny in her nuanced way. Lauren Graham (of Gilmore Girls fame) is the principal and love interest for Vin Diesel who was unconvincing as someone with a military background. Brad Garrett hams it up, but isn't annoying. The kids are cute and their subplots that Diesel helps solve are not too bad. My wife liked it too.

recommended.
