Subject: 24.

Am a little behind the 3rd series (as it's being screened in Oz) because, well, I'm waiting for it to fall to pieces like the previous two series. They started well, then fell to crap until the last several hours. It's obvious the writers had the first few hours and the final few hours structured, but the in-between was unimaginable bullshit made up on the fly. The result: I tape it and watch it when I can be bothered. Presently, I'm behind.

But I found it hilarious when Jack explained to Chase that he got Kim a job at CTU so he could look after her. Is the writers being tongue-in-cheek? Or are they trying to push this issue seriously?

Because if you've watched 24 you'd know Jack's daughter, Kim, is kidnapped essentially every second episode - whether it's by crazed gunmen, paranoid hillbillies, manic bears, or whoever, they've all had their turn over the first two seasons.

At any rate, that the writers had to explain Jack's reasoning really does make the show even more incredible - and not in a good way.

As an aside, how the hell are you expected to believe Dennis Haysbert's character would've been voted President following his marital separation and all the other shenanigans which surrounded his original campaign?
