Now she is a computer wiz at CTU and Jack got her a job (doesn't the US govt have equal opp policies or conflict of interest requirements - of course they do but that would ruin the story). If she gets kidnapped this series I'll spew. And of course like you say if Jack wanted to keep her safe, the obvious place is to get her a job working with terrorists - right.

I did read an interview with the writers of the last series and they do make it up as they go along. The actors have no idea how the season is going to pan out. The writers have a rough idea, but there is usually a mad rush to complete the script before the episode starts shooting. Its on purpose to give it a spontaneous feel - I guess that means it sometimes falls flat as well.

The new series hasn't gripped me much either. the first two had some of the best TV I'd seen for years (and some that was ordinary - I tune out from about episodes 15-20 and then come back for the last bit). I like the villian, the mole and the heroes but they still need the troublesome bureaucrat he keeps blocking Jacks every move.
