Date Posted: Mon, Mar 02 2009, 9:45:26 In reply to: Butch Huber 's message, "Government spending" on Sat, Feb 28 2009, 11:53:21 I believe the city budget may already be in the red for this fiscal year, even though the city manager says that there is $900k in the general fund. I am developing a letter to send to the commission regarding my concerns, however, if you will go to radiofreemj.wordpress.com and look at the information I have posted under Budget you will find some interesting facts, figures and projections. It appears, based on my best estimation, that the city is taking in an average of $880,000 per month and spending approximately $1,250,000 (estimated). Spending more than you take in is a recipe for disaster. If my projections are correct, it appears the city will be underwater financially by the end of the year by as much as $600K. That is an unbalanced budget and unbalanced budgets are illegal in the state of tennessee. What that means is that, at the current rate of spending, and if my estimates are even close to being accurate, we will have a property tax in the next fiscal year. Please read my posts on Radiofree and look for my letter as I will post it on Radiofree and on this site for all to see. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
