Dear Margo,
Thank you for all the info. Unfortunately I obviously do not have the time on my hand that you do. Consequently I do not have the luxury of reading everything that you sent me. But as I make calls to the members of my riding, I repeatedly get the message from certain members that goes like this: Progressive Conservative Party? Don’t want to have anything to do with it. Mr. Orchard? Oh ya, I fully support him. But I usually vote NDP and if Mr. Orchard does not win the leadership, I am the hell out of the party. To repeat my opening email to you about Mr. Orchard wanting to kill the PC party, I have been told the reason he chose to infiltrate the party was because we were weak. Also that it was a lot easier to take over an existing party than to start from scratch. I have a feeling that you are an innocent bystander in all of this. You have to excuse me but that simply is not our way. Once we choose a leader we close ranks behind him or her and support that person in the name of the party. So, you and I can debate policies until the cows come home. It will not serve any purpose because that is not the issue. I agree with you that Mr. Orchard has always been courteous but always in control of his crowd. However, until you realize the company that you are keeping we will talk at cross purposes. You are right when you sense that I am devoted to this party. Fortunately I am not the only one. We will fight you (Orchard supporters) all the way in your attempt to take over our beloved party. On the other hand we would love to welcome you with open arms if you wanted to become true PCers. We have room for a variety of opinions and agree to disagree, but at the end of the day we are all Progressive Conservatives. On the other hand, the only time I see Mr. O’s supporters on my membership list is when there is a leadership vote going on. In between, these supporters are nowhere to be seen. They don’t help at election time because in my riding at least they are all down at the NDP headquarters stuffing envelopes (metaphorical speaking). And worst of all they do not vote PC. I do have a very good relationship with a number of Mr. O’s supporters and I would like to keep it that way. We all have our ideologies and I firmly believe that we are entitled to them. However, I draw the line when there is deceit and treachery and that is what we are dealing with here, and that is why you encounter the anti Orchard sentiment in my party. We are starting to fight back. Some of it is not very nice but maybe it is justified in a strange sort of way.
I regret very much that you and I could not have a more meaningful relationship, maybe at heart we both want what is best for Canada. I am in business and a lot of my business depends on a good relationship with American tourists. Unfortunately they have been made most unwelcome in our country. First by the current government and it seems Mr. Orchard does not have much time for them and their money either, too bad. Undoubtedly we will see each other in Toronto, but if Mr. Orchard wins, it will be the last time you will see me in this party.
Sincerely,
Ariane
