Dennis,

My point was that while it may be nice to reduce the tax on capital gains, 90% of Canadians don't earn taxable gains. Most of them are regular people of modest income trying to make sure there's no month left over at the end of the money.

The fact of the matter is that people who aren't rich or successful have trouble trusting people that are. And lately the policy we've been flogging over the past 10 years caters more to the 10% than it does to the 90%. I suggest to you that with a more average Canadian at the wheel, this party will start to generate policy that is important to average Canadians, thereby creating a party that has thier issues on the front burner.

Take for example the leadership campaign budgets. A lot of these guys are going to spend in excess of seven figures on thier campaigns. David will go head to head with them for a fraction of that. Yes, partly because he hasn't sold his soul to Bay Street and therefore, he has to get by on less, but also because he knows the value of a dollar and doesn't spend $10 when he can get by spending $2. Who would you rather have overseeing the national budget?
