Mike I'm pulling out the paragraph I'm responding to because this thread is getting multi-faceted. I asked you something like who is responsible to organize the big all-candidates debates like the Ottawa Capital region one and you said:
...........
As to the leadership debate in the National Capital Region, I am not part of the LSC, nor aware of all the details, but I understand that is being organized by the party, as opposed to local ridings.
..........
But what is confusing me, Mike, is that the other day you said:
.........
"Certainly one would expect questions in any forum in any part of the country to be addressed to the candidates in French. With the prospect of as many as three candidates coming from the province of Quebec, one would expect that party members in that province would also be interested in sponsoring a meeting at which one would also expect the primary language of questions would be in French."
[some comments deleted for brevity]
AND "So I'm sure we will have an opportunity to see this, and if party members really want to have a chance to see a debate featuring French, they should, especially those in Quebec, start organizing it. We are, after all, not a top-down party are we?"
..............
No, one hopes we are not. But Mike I don't understand why the Party would organize one big all-candidates debate in English in Ottawa area, but not in your feelings be responsible for organizing one of equal 'volume' in Quebec, in French.
Because to not do that - have we not learned anything - would be surely taken as an affront in Quebec, maybe even be political suicide, especially since the Liberals are seen as so much more bilingual......??? I would be interested in your views on this, Mike. And anybody else's, I don't mean to exclude anyone who has an opinion on this, either way.
