Any wonder that we are cynical of Bush's Ordering Saddam H to disarm?

Joe:
I don't suppose that you had time to listen to two reports that aired this morning on CBC's Radio ( 99.1 FM) programme "The Current" hosted by Anna Marie Tremonte.

1. The "embedding" of war correspondents in war zones. The conclusion and admonition of the three experienced war journalist interviewed was/is: Never believe what you hear or read about the war." War reporters' despatches from the war zone are sanitized by the military--especially the American military-- before they are broadcasted.

2. The suppression of information submitted by Saddam Hussein to the UN regarding the names of companies of various countries that have supplied Saddam Hussein with either Weapons of Mass Destruction (WOMD) or the means of making WOMD. The nationality of the major number of companies follows:
1. Germany = 80 companies
2. USA = 24 companies
3. UK = 17 companies
4. France = 8 companies
5. Russia = 6 companies

Major names in the USA are Hewlett Packard (HP), Dupont, and Kodak)
A major name is the UK is International Military Services.

So when we see the US Secretary of State presenting information to the UN Council, one needs to be aware that the information is SELECTIVE, and does NOT give a true and full picture of the conditions.

Although I do not condone for one second any of the actions that Saddam Hussein has done, I wonder about the sanity of the head of the most powerful nation on earth demanding that another sovereign nation (Iraq) completely disarm, after that powerful nation sold armaments to Saddam! Further, there is no doubt in anybody's mind that another country, very close to Iraq -- Israel-- has weapons of mass destruction. Would it now be fair to ask Israel to completely disarm too? Are sovereign countries not entitled to DEFEND their borders against invasion by any other nation? Is there doubt in anybody's mind that the USA will invade Iraq? Will we ever get a true and non-sanitized report of the invasion?

Is it simplistic to think that there could become a time (we'll be long gone) when the most powerful country in the world demands that Canada, or for that matter, any other country that it decides to target, completely disarm? And where do innocent civilians figure in the equation? Is France correct in suggesting that war is always the result of a failure listen and communicate? Could the world's most powerful nation, in spite of its war power, be really running scared-- paradoxically a sign of psychological weakness ?
