This is probably the best place to post this, since many members from other boards in this community stop by here from time to time. Moreover, it's basically the only board where you can still make a post without having to register first or waiting and hoping to have your post approved.
So I will post here, but if you want to copy and paste this to any other forum, feel free.
Here goes ...
The election for president of the USA is over. Bush won, both the popular vote and the electoral college. He won fair and square, there were no reports of widespread voter intimidation, fraud or anything like that. He was elected this time, not selected by the Supreme Court. No lawsuits, no recounts, nothing.
The election is over, time to move on.
You may not like the general direction this country is going, but for the next 4 years, the Republicans are on the helm. Or at least two years, if the Democrats can get their act together and stage an upset during the '06 midterm elections. But until then, life goes on.
I read posts from people who think about killing themselves because of the election results. That's just plain stupid! Those people are completely overreacting.
What would happen if they killed themselves? What would change? Who would care?
Nothing would change, and only a few people would care.
So instead of giving up on your own life, think about how you could make it better. Not for everybody, just for yourself. Stop moping around, stop pitying yourself, get out and do something!
Other people think about moving to Canada. What's holding you back? It's fairly easy for a US citizen to immigrate to Canada. It'll take about a year to get all the paperwork through. So if you want out of this country, stop whining about it, just get the necessary forms and get started. Good luck with your new life!
And then I read all those rants from activists, cursing each and every Republican voter, and the gay Republicans in particular. And I wonder, what's the difference between those activists and Dubya himself? I don't see the difference. They both have the same attitude, "You're either with me or against me!"
I know a few gay people who voted Republican, and and quite frankly, I get really mad when I read those activists insult my friends!
You know, most people don't define themselves primarily through their sexual orientation. Yes, they are gay, but that's not the most important fact about them. So when they cast their votes, there are more important issues for them to think about than who they are sleeping with.
We all want acceptance from this society, but in order to make that demand, we must accept other opinions and lifestyles too. Stop being narrowminded, and stop jumping at people if they have a different opinion. You want to be an activist, fine with me. Just like I tell those Mormon boys when they knock on my door, I respect your opinion and I expect you to respect mine! The Mormon boys do, which is more than I can say from many activists I came to know.
I used to be a regular on many message board in this community, but I had to find out the hard way that your welcome wears out pretty fast if you dare to have opinions that differ from those of the board owners and administrators. I came back because I was curious about the post-election reactions, and I was shocked to see all the hatred!
I don't care what anyone thinks about this post. I won't come back to check for answers. I just had to write a few thoughts down.
