The purpose of the pilot project on the Richmond Hill line was to evaluate this particular fare card system. We’ve had a year to gain experience while collecting customer and staff feedback. We are quite satisfied that we have now gathered enough information to move forward.

We’re pleased with the lessons we’ve learned – they will help us find a system that meets all of our needs, both for you and GO. Also, we are developing a GTA-wide smart card with our local transit partners – we want the system we choose for GO to work well with that.

I really liked the new fare card and so did a lot of other people I've spoken to. Why are you taking it away?

Yes, most customers indicated that they liked the new system; however, we have to evaluate everything, such as how the computer systems interface with each other, and the accounting process. We also need to find a more flexible system that will accommodate all the ways our customers might choose to travel. A third of the fare card users surveyed use other GO services besides the Richmond Hill-to-Union Station trains and buses. We are grateful to all the passengers who participated in the study. We couldn’t have done it without you.
