[ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 25/01/03 1:38:24am http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/news/media/13-12-02-rockdale.html Media Release Friday, 13 December 2002 OFFICIAL OPENING OF ROCKDALE BUS INTERCHANGE The Minister for Transport, Mr Carl Scully, together with the Member for Rockdale, Mr George Thompson, and the Member for Kogarah, Ms Cherie Burton, today officially opened the new bus interchange at Rockdale Station in Geeves Avenue. Mr Scully said the $5.5 million State Government funded bus interchange complements the commuter car park completed in September, and other soon to be completed improvements to Rockdale Station. "This is a great day for bus passengers who now have improved access to Rockdale Station and local services. "The open design of the interchange and surrounding street landscaping has given the area a clean and attractive look, which promotes greater personal security near the station." "The end result is improved access and safety for all commuters who need to catch a bus for part of their journey." "I encourage people to use the new facilities and leave their cars at home, arrive at the station by bus and take advantage of the express trains to the city," Ms Burton said. "More than 50,000 passengers use bus services that travel through the Geeves Avenue bus interchange each week. People can travel from here to Sans Souci, Sydenham or even Miranda by bus," Mr Thompson said. "The new facility will improve comfort and convenience for bus users, with new seating, shelters and signage." Features of the new bus interchange include: Capacity for seven bus bays High intensity security lighting Closed circuit television surveillance, linked to the station's security system Attractive street landscaping and lighting. "I look forward to coming back to Rockdale in the New Year to open the Easy Access upgrades for the rest of the station," Mr Scully said. The interchange was built by Bovis Lend Lease.
