DPers come and go, even long time DPers have gone for good. If Paula's name wasn't on the forum, if she didn't outright own and run everything, I suspect she would have split a while back as back. I was hoping that Paula Appreciation Day would have changed things, but she's obviously still getting fed up with everything. I don't think DP as we know it will be around a whole lot longer.

DP lost it's purpose and direction some years back. It used to be a forum about relationships and sexuality.

It was a refreshing site with good ideas. Unfortunatelly, at one point, Paula started pushing politics into the forum and that changed it.

Politics do not mix well with sharing intimate ideas about sex and relationships.

You cannot have the environment to discuss very personal things if Paula allows abortion to be called "baby killing".

Also, she kept pushing his ideas about Clinton at nauseam, and when somebody expressed a different point of view than hers, Paula allowed conservatives to use name calling with impunity, while sanctioning other sides.

I believe DP has lost it's sense of purpose, the reason for it being. I wish she would have given the admnistration of the forum to somebody who was willing and able to stick to the subject on hand.

Jeff was a good moderator, but Paula and Ethan have been very partial and unreasonable.

Just my thoughts.

Glad you recognize that.

Do you feel that calling abortion "baby killing" has a place in a forum about sexuality?

Also, do you feel OK that conservatives be allowed name calling, while differing viewes get banned?

How about the rules? Is J a name?

Paula's rules seem to bend just like her ideas.

I don't always agree with Paula. Politically, I almost always disagree with her. She's much more conservatve than I am. But it is her board so, as I see it, she gets to run it any way she sees fit. If I don't like it, I'll just leave and find another board more to my liking. Since, however, hers is a general discussion forum, I do prefer a board with diverse opinions rather than one where we all share a similar stance. Now if I want to discuss politics, I would rather do it in a community of people who do have similar views as me, so that we have some common ground. That's just the way I am. I know some "liberals" who would rather hang out in conservative communities (and vice versa) and try to convert the people there (though I suspect they really strengthen them). That's not for me.

I'm not trying to convert anybody to anything.

I just believe that politics and sexuality don't mix very well on the same board.

Both need to be discussed independently. In addition, if a forum is to discuss politics in particular, same rules should be applied to all participants indiferent of their views.

You cannot allow phrases like "stupid liberals" and "baby killers" and ban people for responding in kind.

Also, you cannot allow individuals like "J" to post when you state a rule that names should be "real".

Doing so, questions the intent of all the rules you have.

Allowing for such, tilts the forum in a particular way. Yes it is Paula's forum, but the manner in which it has been run lately makes it a forum who's purpose is to confirm Paula's views in a subtle, indirect manner.

Paula became more politically correct as the years rolled on. PC is free speech supression. The talk became less frank and open. You had to talk in "code" in asking or explaining things to avoid her heavy hand.

Your assessment is 100% accurate and Paula brought DP to its current final state.
