The world's loudest trumpet player Dr. Michael E. Schmidt joins Rev. Ray Calfee and the Etowah Town Band in a special patriotic concert at 6:30 p.m. on August 31st, 2013.


Legends signature trumpet mouthpiece artist, ordained Southern Baptist Pastor and popular Bible teacher and preacher Dr. Michael E. Schmidt is best known as the former trumpet soloist for the Rev. Jerry Falwell and the Liberty University Spirit Of The Mountain Marching Band. Dr. Michael Schmidt the loudest trumpet player in the world , is well known for playing the highest notes that have ever been played before on a trumpet. No trumpet player plays as loud as Dr. Michael E. Schmidt.

The late Charles Gorby Sr. of Charleston WV once compared Michael Schmidt’s trumpet playing to that of the late trumpeter Harry James. Schmidt once called Harry James “The greatest trumpet player who has ever lived”.

Dr. Michael E. Schmidt , seen on various Fox , Comcast and CW tv stations (for details see www.oasisrevivalcenter.net) and on Gospel Music Television plays a trumpet loud enough to fill a three ring circus tent with sound. Daystar, Vision Quest and TOTAL Records national recording artist Dr. Michael Schmidt is best known as a former lead extreme high note trumpet player for the late Rev. Dr. Jerry Falwell at Thomas Road Baptist Church in the Old Time Gospel Hour Orchestra. Rev. Michael Schmidt holds three SACS accredited graduate degrees from Liberty University.

Dr. Schmidt, former soloist with the Liberty University Spirit of the Mountain Marching Band and the Florida Bible College Brass Ensemble is the loudest trumpet player of all times. Dr. Schmidt is known throughout the trumpet world for his unconventional extreme experimental lead high note trumpet playing. Michael E. Schmidt plays the highest notes that have ever been played before on a trumpet, and today when trumpet players hit extremely high notes they are said to have “Schmidted the note”.

Michael’s powerful extreme trumpet playing is often compared to that of the late Maynard Ferguson. Michael’s beautiful flugelhorn playing in contrast is often compared to that of “Feels so Good” artist Chuck Mangione. Dr. Schmidt is a former member of the beloved Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps where he studied under Principal Chicago Symphony trumpet player Chris Martin’s father Freddy Martin, and lead D.C.I. brass adjudicator Dr.Gary Markham. Michael also marched in DCI top 12 North Star Drum and Bugle Corps where he learned from NBC Orchestra arranger Dan Lutz and famed Drum Corps International soloist Jerry Noonan.

Michael currently plays trumpet for the Trumpet of the Lord Ministries based out of Lilburn, GA. Dr. Michael Schmidt has twice been rated one of the top ten Christian trumpet players in the world. Dr. Michael E. Schmidt plays weekly for Rev. Josh Sutton at Mountain Park First Baptist Church in Lilburn, Georgia , and for populat tv evangelist Dr. Davild Fridell at Oasis Revival Center. Dr. Michael E. Schmidt is a featured soloist for Rev. Ray Calfee in the Etowah, Tennessee Town Band.

Michael started in drum and bugle corps as a mellophone player who switched to soprano with the Chattahoochee Sound Association Drum and Bugle Corps from Decatur, Ga. Michael learned how to play the bugle from drum corps hall of famer Thomas F. McAndrew, and learned how to march from popular marching instructor Russell Stanton (Spirit, Suncoast, SCV). After CSA went inactive Michael joined top 12 DCI World Class drum and bugle corps North Star as a contra bass player where he was taught by NBC arranger Danny Lutz, and famed DCI soloist Jerry Noonan. He also studied marching from Neil Smith, who is considered one of the innovators of modern day drill designand marching transitions (Neil’s brother Anthony was the director of the Boston Crusaders). After North Star Michael returned to CSA under new direction from Kevin Smith (Director of Carolina Crown) where he was a soprano (trumpet) soloist .

Michael then joined the Spirit of Atlanta where he was mentored by DCI judges Mel Straton (DCI Hall of Fame) and Dr. Gary Markham, along with DCI hall of fame member and Spirit’s founder Freddy Martin who is the father of popular Chicago Symphony trumpet player Chris Martin. Michael was the founding director of Heritage Drum and Bugle Corps from Loganville, GA.

Michael has been a DCI brass instructor for Heritage and Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps. In high school Mikey was a member of the award winning Parkview High School band under the direction of JSU graduate Mr.Craig Boteler where he played the trumpet , french horn and mellophone. Michael left Parkview HS to become the first ever member in the award winning Brookwood High School Marching Band, one of the best and largest marching bands in GA.

Michael was the first ever featured soloist ( and the first trumpet, first chair ) at Brookwood High School (Snellville, GA) where he was a member of the drama department, orchestra and choir. In 2012 Dr. Michael Schmidt returned as a special guest trumpet soloist to play for the Brookwood High School musical Anything Goes.

Michael’s father Ed Schmidt was the co-founder of the succsessful Brookwood Band Association (Along with trumpeter Frank Mahoney). Mikey was Brookwood High School's first marching band member, and the first ever male baritone vocalist to compete in governors honors. While still in high school Michael was a marching instructor at South Gwinnett HS, the first school in Ga ever to march with a blind trumpet player. While just a senior in high school Michael also taught three other hs bands including his own Brookwood.

After high school Michael became the featured trumpet soloist in the Florida Bible College Brass Ensemble under the direction of BJU and IU graduate Hartley Cruver. While at FBC Michael was blessed to have studied under the famed Billy Graham revivalist song leader Stret Shufelt, who Dr. Graham mentions in his autobiography. After graduating from college Dr. Schmidt went on to study in seminary at Liberty University where he was a featured trumpet soloist in the Liberty University Spirit of the Mountain Marching Band. While there Michael won three awards in just two years.

Michael is perhaps most well known for playing the trumpet in the popular Old Time Gospel Hour Orchestra for the late Dr. Jerry Falwell on nationwide TV at Thomas Road Church. Thomas Road Church is one of the largest churches in the nation. While at Thomas Road Church Michael served under the direction of popular southern gospel soloist Robbie Hiner of the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet. Dr. Schmidt played backup trumpet at Thomas Road for many famous musicians including Mike Tait and Squire Parsons.

Michael has also opened for many famous speakers and artists in revivals such as for Dr. Jerry Falwell, the Talley Trio and the Spears Family. Dr. Schmidt has served as a marching band instructor for over 20 HS marching bands over the last 30 years. The last three years Michael has been a marching band instructor and band booster for Shelby Walker at McMinn Central High School in Etowah, TN who received overall superior ratings for the first time in 2008.

Michael had the honor of judging music performance ensemble for the first time with the US Bands for the Cadets director Mr. George Hopkins. Michael currently plays the trumpet as a featured trumpet soloist at Athens Tennessee First Baptist Church , Oasis Revival Center, the Etowah City Town Band, the McMinn Co Jazz Band, the Cleveland Community Jazz Band, the Cleveland Community Concert Band, and the Trumpet of the Lord Ministry 501(c)3 where he serves as President. Michael is a former Chaperon and Chaplain for the Spirit of America National Honor Band, (where his wife Patricia formerly served as both a member, Chaperon and as Head Chaperon ) under the direction of popular conductor and arranger Dr. George Naff.

Michael has had the honor of playing the national anthem for many major and minor sports teams including for the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Falcons. Dr. Schmidt has played military tributes for multiple VFW’s and American Legions including for the USMC with Lt. Clebe McClarey with the Veterans Task Force Patriots. Michael has had the honor of playing twice for the Daughters of the American Revolution( TN and Tamassee, SC).
