Terrible things are happening no question - but you can't ignore the terrible things that Saddam Hussein has inflicted on his own population e.g the gasing of the Kurds, shooting instantly anyone (including his own sons) anyone who defies him. This man is no better than Hitler - committing Genocide on his own people. Should we have ignored Hitler and let his Anti-Semitism and Euthanasia policies continue? The Iraqi people have been indoctrinated to love this man - by this man - they are scared to rise up against him because it's all they know. It's all to easy to blame of our own leaders for everything but do not forget what Saddam as done.

If you really are concerned about the Iraqi people ask yourself this: Is it better for them to live under an oppressive dictator and have no freedom? or for them to be freed from him so that they can benefit frOM the undoubted wealth that Iraq possesses. I now see this war as a short-term sacrifice (A very terrible sacrifice) for a long-term, long-lasting gain.

This wealth is derived from their oil (the oil that he now burns) - is the wealth that Saddam has spent on himself by building all those palaces instead of providing medical care and food for 'his' people.

The cynical world we live in says that Blair and Bush are only interested in the oil and that they are lying when they say their sole interest is in changing the regime. The fact that it may be personal (finishing his dad's work) is by the by. The UN is a joke, after 12 years of resolutions and sanctions and agreeing in UN resolution 1441 that something has to be done - France can hijack everything by threatening to exercise their veto. There's been 12 years for diplomacy and it doesn't wash with Saddam - like it didn't work with Hitler. How many chances can we give him to disarm? People say that War is not the answer - but what is? Inaction - is like turning your head away when you see someone getting visciously attacked by a gang of youths.

It is such a mind-blowing situation this war!! On the one hand we enjoy the freedom and liberty denied to the Iraqi people by Saddam, and on the other hand we are conditioned to hate war. Is this war just? - i don't know.
Anti-war or Pro-Peace? I see if you Anti-War, in this case, then you are not necessarily pro-peace because it's almost as if you are condoning Saddam's actions and his dictatorship. Can you be Pro-war for peace? i think you can. It seems oxymoronic but there is no alternative that humanity can see to make things any different. The boundaries of what is wrong and right in this situation is so blurred it's unbelievable.

My head is so fucked just thinking about it! The fact that 'Gulf War 2' is the new reality TV show makes it all the more harder when you see PoW's paraded illegally (under the Geneva Convention)by the Iraqi Officials and the actual fighting on the screen when you're thousands of miles away 'safe' in your own home.
