I've always been told it's good to share, but if the riaa had their way, nobody should be allowed to use, hear, or watch my stuff.
In the winter my sister will sometimes sno-blo the walk & driveway next door while she's out there anyway. In the summer sometimes they'll mow her front lawn while they're doing theirs. Will Toro, Craftsman, Black & Decker, or the riaa be sueing them for sharing?
If your spouse, lover, partner, kids, roomate or friend drive your car, can GM & Ford sue you for sharing?
People get to ride the subway in my town for free between downtown & Aleentown. Kids get bus passes to ride busses & the subway for free during school & school events hours. The handicapped, economically depressed, & ederly get passes or tokens to ride them for free from the county or state. Can the riaa, the city, county, manufacturer of the busses & trains, sue for offerring free rides on the system?
Ok... maybe it's just intellectual material. Can the designers of the snowblowers, lawnmowers, & vehicles sue or have the riaa sue in their name for sharing?
Perhaps the Edison foundation can sue you for having a porch light. After all, it lights the sidewalk in fromt of your house which everybody uses.
Outside my apartment, in the halls, & staircases, I own & installed all the light fixtures. They're all my light bulbs too. They all run off of my electricity & my breaker box in my apartment. If a bulb burns out, I replace it with my own bulb. There's no windows in the halls or stairs so we need the light. All the other tenants of the building & the owners use the halls & stairs. I'm sharing all that light & electricity just to get cheap rent... just call me a hardend criminal!
Before CDs & mp3s we had records & tape. All the kids, little old ladies, & just about anyone who couldn't afford a large music collection shared or taped their records & allowed others to listen to them. Just about everyone has video taped TV shows, specials & movies, & allowed others to see them. All of them are guilty of stealing according to the riaa.
When a stranger or bum asks me for a quarter or cigarette, can I be arrested for giving him one for free?
As part of Valetines day, my GF watched my DVDs on my digital DLP widescreen projector. She also watched some stuff I pre-recorded off my digital cable system. Over dinner I played a disk I mixed of our favorite stuff... copies of stuff off of many disks that I bought & own. She like the disk. Before she went home I popped the disk out of the machine & gave it to her. I also give her copies of movies she liked.
She is not a member of the household, we both have our own place. We're not married so not related. I also give my BF disks I mixed.
Technically most of the population of the world should go to jail or get fined by the riaa. If sued, most of us would probably have to file bankruptcy, & perhaps collect welfare the rest of our lives. So nobody will profit from these recent riaa actions, & it won't make the world a better place.
