Yeah Betty.

Sounds like a parallel with the Britsh Empire. When we were top dog, a long time ago, huge amounts of money went on defence and empire building, whilst the majority of the population lived in absloute poverty. The full weight of industrialisation fell on their shoulders while a few at the top creamed off the profits of expansion.

I think this war is a godsend to Bush, what else would he do? I can't see him particularly interested in getting the world economy into shape or indeed anything else.

I don't think it's a worry like Korea or Vietnam, the terrain is unfavorable to the locals. Too flat and open. If the US/UK wanted to, the war could be over very quickly...but half the population of Iraq would perish. As for the temperature, which is about to rise, the Britsh army fought a long war in Iraq in the first world war, without the aid of modern equipment.

Brown our Chancellor has put up National Insurance which kicks in this month. It pays for The National Health Service amongst other things. He has completly misjudged growth in the UK and has borrowed more cash on the back of his inflated growth predictions.

What's he going to do know that we are at war...he can't borrow any more...so he has to raise taxes, on the back of all the stealth taxes he has inflicted on us.

I don't know who pays for the Tomahawks etc which are fired by our air force and navy, but I shouldn't think we get them for nothing.

The thing is I'm actually starting to like Tony Blair, when I thought he used to across like a second hand car salesman.

I think we're in for a rough ride economically.
