You don't HAVE to use primer of any type. Very dilegent preparation of the nail plate, ie "mechanical" priming can replace chemical priming.
OR
Try using a non-Methacrylic acid primer such as Bondex or similar with just about any brand of acrylics ,using the BX in place of the MA(except with rentention).
OR
Be sure the MA primer is completely dry before applying acrylic when you do use it.
OR
Try gel nails. Some techs prefer the control they get with the "primer" being ion the gel. (Some gels, not all)

BTW.... "acid" is all relative, and acidic does not mean bad! Everything (except water, ideally pH of 7) is either acidic (pH 0 to less than 7) or alkalaine (caustic, base, pH greater than 7 to 14). A move of equal pH points in either direction (acid or base) has basically the same effect, as both acids and bases burn and corrode. Our nails typically have a pH of 5.5, which makes them slightly acidic in nature! Acetone is a base with a pH of about 9 or 10.
