Subject: I blew it!

Things didn't go well yesterday. I put the butt in the smoker at eight in the morning and at 6:30pm it was still only at 156 degrees. I had run out of fuel midway, had to restart a new chimney and loaded the smoker with lumps hoping to get higher temp but couldn't get the dome temp higher than 270. I had to finish it in the oven at 350.
I fell asleep before ready (maybe a Corona or vodka shot too many LOL) and my wife ended up shredding and making the sandwiches. The bright side was that when I woke up from my nap, supper was ready. It was 8:15 already! But there is a God though: the meat tasted great on its own or soaked in the sop. Go figure. The Smoke and Spice Golden Mustard sauce was way too spicy for my taste -and I like hot food. If I ever do it again I'll cut the cayenne and black pepper in at least half.
I've been soaking 2 lbs of pinto beans all night and will cook them today with a pound of the pork in it.
You live you learn I guess.
