Yes, there seems to be quite the gap between low end and high end commercial cookers/smokers. How about a Weber Smokey Mountain cooker? Several folks here have one, and the newest owner of a WSM on this forum, Reg, is located down near Buffalo (Niagara Falls, ON) where all that snow is making the news. He has been using the cooker throughout the flurries, so it will handle a Calgary winter, no problem. Check out 'bbq' or 'barbecue' or 'barbeque' in your yellow pages; bet there is someone with some sort of commercial smoker/grill/bbq. The Weber Smokey Mountain runs about $280 Cdn and is a good starting place (or destination!) for those interested in backyard smoking/barbecuing! There's a great user site, which I can't remember at the moment, can probably access it through www.weber.com, but I'm not positive.
