My son is dyslexic, and he has always had a hard time orienting to a two-dimensional (paper)test (despite the fact that he also has no trouble reading now either (he did have trouble learning to read). Dyslexia is a visual-perceptual disorder that makes it difficult to orient oneself to two-dimensional representations (which is pretty much all written communication.) That is why many people with dyslexia are good at graphic arts and engineering -- they are hard-wired to think in three dimensions. They are actually gifted in terms of visual-spacial, but that is not an advantage when having to aclimate to a scantron, or any other traditional, written testing method.
