Hi too have dyslexia and am interested in psychiatry ane psychology. I would probably have done psychology and become a councelling psychologist but I got into medicine as a second degree in the UK. I also have some co-ordination problems and was told that I would not be able to study medcine because of my dyslexia and my other problems but here I am going into my second year on monday! Medicine is about real things happening and is visual and about peoples fears values and feelings so I find it easier than pure English -still takes me far longer than anyone else to write essays though. I find that men are often more negative my dad dose not have dyslexia and can be negative towards my mum and myself. I have found that alot more of the men I have met with dyslexia are doing poorly and manage to have even lower slefesteem than me (hard to imagine at times!. Men seam to live in a world where things have to be right can't admit to having problems or I'm not good enough sort of theory. I feel sorry for them they seem more prone to crash out if anything goes wrong. If you have dyslexia (or are alive presumably) you have to be able to accept that you might have different problems to others and be able to ask for help and insist. I feel sorry for people who do not have problems now and can't see this because if they every do come up against a problems I hope they learn this very quickly - sorry for the rant Good luck -don't worry you will make it there is lots of time! I'm sure that you would be great at listening to and councelling others but anyway but that your experience with dislexia will make your empathy even stronger!
