Sorry I just read this and your email was 5 months ago. I have a severely dyslexic son who was not reading in the public school in 6th grade. Its a long story but bottom line is Orton GIllingham one on one tutoring by a CERTIFIED tutor is the angel in my sons life. He is now going into 10th grade and doing wonderfully however it hasn't been easy. He work soooo hard. Studies have shown if they don't get reading by third grade it becomes way more difficult. If you school can't handle this then fight to get a trained person who can tutor you children. If I didn't fight for my son he would have been illiterate. The school was perfectly ok with socially promoting to the 6th grade not reading! Also know that girls present differently than boys in their dyslexia. Girls can compensate longer but it catches up to them. Hope this helps. I empathize with you. Hang in there.
