I am 50 year Olds student here in Washington state.I go to Tacoma community college and I was diagnosed with dyslexia.I worked for a major aircraft company and was laid off and December, 2001.I started back in school in 2002 @Seattle community college to become a Help Dest special.it wasn't that I was not learning, but because I was slower then most students in my math class + English and because workers restraining was paiding for the class where i needed to maintain at least2.5 GPA I was told that my funding would be cut off.My only other option was to go to Linda move a program that special in dyslexia and ADD.My plans was to get to specialize training and then go back to school.Linda move bail is very expensive, but DVR was going to pay the for the course but because of the cuts in state funding they could not help me.so I tried to find a job and paid for it myself .I did find a job as a housekeeper working part time in the evenings and going to school doing the day at Tacoma community college. When I take exam or test I have to wait or schedule a appointment to take it with one of the staff members have a day off so I can use that office to take the exam in. I have talked to the deen about it and was told that they didn't have the facilities to accommodate me .I am not the one to just accept what someone tells me just because they say it and that's the way is. I will continue do struggle to get the education I deserve ,but it is a struggle and it's hard especially when you go through the same thing at different college .I think some people don't stand up is because they're tired and in just get up. some college just think all they need to do is to providing accommodations not the more.they look at us as a inconvenience and some of us would rather go along with the program or status Quo.this might be one of the reasons students with the so called disability do not stand up for the rights
