An old grandmother squirrel sat in her rocking chair, leaning forward as she smiled at her young grand-daughter. The dibbun looked at the aging beast and smiled, brightly, the radiance of her freshly scrubbed face bouncing off her older relatives, making it shine with a beauty that she had lost seasons back. " Tell me a story!" The young beast, who's name was Chrysanthemum, said, her big hazel eyes looking pleadingly at her grandmother.

The old beast smiled kindly, and pulled the young squirrel onto the lap of her deep purple gown. " This is about myself, Songwind, and when I was young..." The old female's voice was cracked with age. "One day, long ago, I had set out from Redwall, which we will visit in the spring. You'll see your uncle Flexma there, Won't that be nice? "

Chrysanthemum sighed, and looked at her Grandma's once fair face, which still was pretty. " Get on wit' da story!"

Songwind smiled at her grand-squirrel. " Alright. Well I left Redwall in search of my brothers, Flexma and Alderjack, " The young one settled back, for this was her favorite story. "-My brothers had always wanted to be warriors. I looked for them for many weeks, but couldn't find them. When I lived at Redwall, I had learned healing. So I emptied one of my sacks and gathered herbs, making my healers pack as I went on my way. I learned many things...-"

The old squirrel stopped, her grandchild was asleep. She called softly to her daughter, who was making clothing for the family, and waiting for her husband as she paced the hallway pensively. " That won't help Daffodil. Your Da' was the same way. Chrysanthemum's asleep..."

The family sat happily, their calm atmosphere sleepy. The old squirrel dreamed of her younger seasons, and of Brawn, Her mate, who had died so many seasons ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One squirrel, brave an bold,
A maiden, true and tolled,
TO meet on a battle field one night,
Two sides clashed in a fight.
The squirrel warrior,
Brave and bold,
A normal warrior,
Unlike the maid,
The maid, a healer,
In the fray,
Will say how they fell in love that day.
With her an officer,
And he alone,
The made their way.
She saw him go down with an arrow,
Her dagger sang as she ran.
He suffered as she applied the yarrow.
Then two fell in love,
love at first sight,
He was hers since that glance.
Oh, What a sweet Romance!
The Song, and The Lance.
