*Skarlatha crept quietly into the kitchen. She had eluded capture for dibbun bedtime. The Friar had his back turned to her. Now was the time! She had seen three candied chestnuts on the counter.* She thought,"Friar has seen me!"*as the Friar turned around, Skarlatha scrabled into an open cabinet. She had avoided detection!* The Friar then told one of his assistants, "I think all is laid out for the time being. It's time to get some rest."*One of his assistants(who just happened to be Mother Mellus) then grabbed the chestnuts and said, "I'll just bring these little beauties to the infirmary. You know what Friar put in them. Wouldn't want any dibbun to get these or else..." To her, the thought of the forbidden candied chestuts just encouraged her even more. As Mother Mellus went up the stairs, Skarlatha was like a small shadow. She murmered to herself, "Hope Muv Mells don't catch me." Now they were at the top. Mother Mellus headed toward the infirmiry, and set the chestnuts on a small table. Skarlatha scurried behind a bed and waited. Mother Mellus yawned loudly and left the room murming so quietly that Skarlatha couldn't hear, "Is that a dibbun or my imagination?" Skarlatha then climbed out, grabbed the candied chestuts, then clambered sleepily into the hall.She decided to have an adventure by the tapestry, so that's where she went. When she got there, she ate the one, and her mouth exploded in strawberry flavor.When she ate the second one, she found it was vanilla. The third was hotroot pepper! Skarlatha ran faster than ever, her footpaws making pit-a-pat sounds on the great redstone blocks. She dashed headlong into the pond. That cooled her mouth off. Then she got out of the lake, dripping wet. She played in the sand for the next half-hour and realized that she was cold, for it was only in the middle of spring. Skarlatha lumbered into the orchard, where there was a "big leaf tree"and grabbed one of the leaves. She wrapped around herself and fell asleep near the strawberry patch, accidentally squishing one of the strawberries on her mouth as she fell, totally exausted into a deep sleep.
The next morning when she awoke, she found that she was in the infirmiry, consequently in the same bed that she had hidden behind. Her mother, Roseoak, was holding her hand and talking to the infirmery sister, "Are you sure that she ate the candied chestnuts that had the sleeping potion in them?" The sister replied, "Yes, unfortunately. Otherwise she wouldn't have slept all yest.."she was interupted by Roseoak exclaiming, "She's awake! my little Skarlatha's awake! Skarlatha, how could you? You really had me worried."
That afternoon Skarlatha was sentanced to cleaning the infirmiry, end to end. The infirmery sister told her, "You know, if you hadn't eaten the strawberries, you would only have to clean the window off."
