I wish I could say, at the end of it all,
There was no such battle; my friend did not fall,
I wish I could look at the faint waning moon,
And think not of the war drums, beating their tune.

I wish I could not be the last of six hundred,
To watch as they died, while the very Earth thundered,
To live their lives for them, nor see for their eyes,
I wish I could know that their souls hadn't died.

I wish I could sit, on the top of the Hill,
Where the battle was ended, we were all trained to kill,
I whish I could stop them from making that choice,
That no blood was running, that they�d speak with their voice.
Instead of through me.
