In our last chapter: Well, it's too long to post here. And it's almost right b'low this post, so y'shan't have a hard time finding it. I'm afriad there were MAJOR spoilers for Martin the Warrior(The book, y'no.). Anyway, let's take a look at what out great Vernix is up to.....
Nerean Fol was pleased. Preperations for their voyage were going smoothly, but that was to be expected when the lesser vermin being overseen by Aured. Aured was a female fox, and was one of Fol's best fighters. Her cold, calculating ways and the way her gaze intimidated even the most hardened beast made her that way.
Aryle was perched upon the steps that led up to the main cabin, watching with slight amusement the pair known as 'The Twins.' Vasika, a female Vernix barely four seasons old, was playing with a ball, tossing it back and forth with her brother Nerith. They laughed and giggled when the ball rolled near their mother, and she had to throw it back. Aryle was an excellent thrower. That fact was probably due to all the knifes and stones she had chucked at her enemies. But she didn't tell The Twins that. Let them live as long as possable without the knowlage that it was because their mother had been a killer, and not because of the games she'd played as a young one.
Aryle snorted quietly. Games as a young one indeed! Her life at a young age had involved slaying those who were plotting to kill her because of the fortune and position that she would inherite when she was of age. That age came all too soon, when her parents were slain and she had to reprisent the Sea Rulers clan at the annual vermin council, she had been only ten seasons. It didn't matter what age the reprisenitive was, as long as he or she had quick thinking, a skill for uncovering rebel plots, smarts, and of course they had to be from the Vernix clan reprisented.
Seasons after that, she had married Nerean Fol and together they had pushed their way up to the top, until they were one of the primary and most respected Vernixes of them all. In the prossess, they had aquired two cubs, one, Nereith, was born by her, and Vasika had been an orphan, found near the road and abandoned. After much pleading on her part to Nerean, they had adopted her and told everyone that she was Nerith's twin, hiding the truth. But it barely mattered that no one knew, as Nerith and Vasika had, over the years, become truely The Twins, who were loved by both Nerean and Aryle. Now there was no way she would let her cubs grow up in the mind-numbing fear that had gripped her many a night at their age. No, she would enjoy 'spoiling' them, yet give them an education on weapons of war without their knowing it. Already each of them could sling a wooden stick fashioned as a dirk, not nearly as good as their mother, but still a fair shot.
Aryle was brought out of her thoughts when Nerean lightly touched her shoulder. She looked up, and Fol motiond toward The Twins.
"Tell them to follow us, 'tis time I showed 'em where we're going to live."
The Twins willingly followed their parents into the main cabin. Several paper lanturns illuminated the comfertable space, where three beds, a table laden with charts, and a few random things that were to be brought along.
Fol led them to the charts. He pointed at the faded one that Aryle had caught him looking at a few days ago, his voice enthusiastic.
"Here is where our new home'll be, it's call Redwall. What d'ya think?"
Vasika peeked over the table edge, having to stand on her tip-paws to do so. Her small voice sqeaked slightly as she spoke. "Daddy, I norra see it!"
Fol chuckled. He lifted her up, and set her in the edge of the table. "Do you see it now, little Vasika?"
Vasika sqeaked in excitment. "Yah, yah! Oooh, it'sa small!"
Nerean chuckled again. "Wait'll ya see in in person, me liddle Vasi! It's much, much bigger then on that piece of parchment." Nerith tugged slightly on his father's tunic. His voice sqeaked less then Vasika's.
"Dad'y, lemee see! I wanna see our new homeser!"
So, Vasika was set down and Nerith picked up, with a new round of oohs and ahs. Nerean and Aryle exchanged looks. This ws perfect. It simply would not be worth going if The Twins didn't like where they were headed and threw fits and such, making the whole party miserable. And that wouldn't happen. With so few numbers(Only about 30 Vernix total), each Vernix family was closely knit. They needed each other. Nothing could seperate them, except the sea. And that wasn't going to happen, and nothing was going to go wrong.
Nothing.
END OF PART SIX!!
And now a word from our auther: Betcha never heard of such a type o' vermin, eh? That's the best thing about using a not-used-very-often/ever type of vermin; you have an almost clean easal to work on.
Look forward to Part Seven!
