The squirrel sighs as she looks at the gray rain, thinking that the angels were mourning again. Oh how she longed for the shining rays of the sun, and a gentle breeze upon her cheek, but old Uncle James had an ache in his shoulder that foretold of many more days of rain. She and her mother, father, and baby sister Vale were strangers to the land called Lamin. They came from a blessed place, she called it home, and Lomins called it Mossflower. They only left because of a curse on the land, one of famine and drought, oh so rare in Mossflower.
A knock from the front door startles her from her wishes, and she takes loon strides to the entrance. She sees no living soul near, so she begins to shut the door, but a young babe's cry stops her. She looks, and at the bottom of the stairs lays a parcel. She takes a few steps into the rain, and scoops it up. Tenderness and compassion covers her heart as she sees what lays within. It is a young fox cub, with orange fur and black paws. He let out a small cry, and she hurried in. Vale was just about this dibbun's age, she could take care of it. She quickly hurries up the stairs, careful not to jostle the child to much, and knocks on the door to her mother's room.
She opens the door, and begins to talk, "Mother! I was just looking out the window.." her mother quickly takes the fox out of Opeh's paws, and looks at him, and sighs a happy, yet sad sigh, "Opeh, this fox, I suppose you found him in the rain where a mother who couldn't, or wouldn't, care for him. But he is welcome here. But I can not take care of him, for little Vale and your father are enough to handle for an old soul like me. You shall take care of, oh, what shall we name him?" Opeh had been thinking, and quickly replies, "Nadro, rain in the old language, for he was found and has come during the rain." Sarla smiles, "Nadro it is. Opeh, you shall take care of Nadro." Opeh's face beams, and nods, her golden tail bobbing along, "I will mother, I'll take care of him. Opeh hurries off to find some fresh clothes for Nadro, and Sarla grins. What a fine mother Opeh will become!
