(It's been ages since I've submitted /anything/, but I figure I might as well display this.)

Late at night
One winter's night
A lonely light shines through the town
A small girl lies
Beneath the skies
Of a blue quilt stuffed with down.

Her eyes alight
Like rays of moonlight
Shining far above
Her smile pure
Her hair mature
Her grace undreamed of.

Her soft sighs
Her silent cries
Laughter muffled from time to time
Her pumping fist
That will not subsist
Cheering for a hero in his prime.

Her brow creased
The emotions ceased
Trying to puzzle out a rhyme
Her lips in motion
Expressing the devotion
Of a song on the page for all time.

Her eyes ablaze
With hate and rage
At the horror that evil wreaks
Her face wet
With tears of regret
For those who died and could not speak.

She is engaged
With words on a page
In a book measured seven by four
A simple story
Full of glory
That lets her imagination soar.

She closes the book
Goes to turn off the light
Pauses to say thank you and goodnight
To Brian Jacques
The greatest writer of all
Who picks up his pen every nightfall.
