Extract from the recordings of Sister Clearily, Recorder and Gatehouse Keeper of Redwall Abbey...

" 'Tis a warm summer day, yet the odd breeze betrey the coming autumn. Brooksong says, with a usual whoop, that she will be glad when the winter comes. I know that we all shall look forward to the cooler weather, especially because of the swealtering heat! Friar Iverleas has just anounced that it's tea time, so I must pause just long enough to say that I feel that something out of the ordanairy is going to happen today, mayhap even before the Nameday tomorrow. Well, toodloo and all that!"

Sister Clearily glanced up from her writings. She was a small harvest mouse, clad in a blue gown and a small cap topping her furry head. A mouse in her middle seasons, Clearily was also a member of the Council, Recorder, assistent cook, Gatehouse keeper, and assistent Infermary keeper. She ajusted her small glasses and peared out the open Gatehouse door.
"Young Nettlebriar! Get your spikes away from that pond, young lady!"
The little dibbun hedgehog looked back and winked cheekily at Clearily. "Willa you gimme a can'ied chesknutter?"
The Sister sighed and blew a stray hair away from her face. "Yes, if you beat me to afternoon tea!" Nettlebriar took off for the wallsteps, where the tea was layed out.
"Beatcher to da table, Sissy Cear'y!"
Clearily shook her head and smiled as she made her way out of the Gatehouse, careful not to disturb the dust. Suddenly she hitched up her skirts and, with speed that belied one of her status, scampered nimbly to the wallsteps, causing much hilarity among the Dibbuns and beating the startled Nettlebriar to the table.
"Whooohahahaha! I say, Sister, you certinly showed that liddle 'un! Whoohahahaha!" A otterwife about the same age as Clearily wandered up with her plate piled high with scones and mint tea. Brooksong, or Brooky as she was known to her friends, balenced her's and Clearily's trays as the two friends made their way to the orcherd.
Sister Clearily smiled. "Aye, but one more caper like that and I might caper out, Brooky!" A loud knock on the main gates interuppted her. They both looked at each other as a haremaid called Kersey said in a puzzled voice.
"I say, wot! Who's at the door?"

Muffle banged fruitlessly at the tall wooden gates. Rosestripe sighed. "Hear, let me 'ave a try, Muff. The rest of you, start singing!" Whilst the strong badgermaid pounded on the door, the squirrels, the hares, and the otter broke out in song, harmanizing as they went.

"Oh the strollers life is plain for me!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum!
We sing, we charm, we play for thee!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum!

While some are rough, and some are naughty,
We charmin' ladies are none to haughtyyyy!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum!

We've come tae y'door, to sing for
A deli-isous-yummy-riffic lots a scoff!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum!

Muffy, Lady, Haze an' Rosy,
Are joined by Star, and Rei,
Not t'mention May and Poppy!
An' these fair maids will make yer day!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum!
Dum De Doo La Hey Hey Hum Hum Hum!"

The gates slowly swung open. Muffle suddenly found herself engulfed in a tight hug by Brooky. Muffle grinned. "Hi, Mum! Ah'm back from a likke stroll 'round th' Highlands wi' Nuncle Doogy!"
