Just as modern versions of Christianity should be compared with the teachings of Jesus, so also should modern versions of Marxism be compared with the teachings of Karl Heinrich Marx (1818-1883). Obviously the version of Marxism as it was practised in the former USSR has been proven to be less viable than are (most? all?) versions of Capitalism.
..... Perhaps the happiness of people should be compared? Many people have been killed by many believers of the very many systems; did that make most of the survivors happier?
..... Jesus had been influenced by the Romans' military occupation of the country, and the difficulties many people got into, while Marx was influenced by the vast unregulated exploitation of the very many quite powerless employees under the "laisser faire" (let them do whatever they want) type of Capitalism, their enemy, that was supported by the local religious authorities; this therefore led to the rejection of the then current local versions of religion, also therefore an enemy, by "Marxists".
